Ham Radio Field Day Test Successful in Kooskia
Ham Radio operators from Idaho and Lewis counties gathered at the Kooskia city park on June 27 and June 28th for their annual field day exercise.
Using portable radios and simple wire antennas from a less than optimum radio location, the hams were able to contact 145 other groups in 20 states
and 2 Canadian provinces. Contacts were made with stations as far away as Alaska and Louisiana.
Field Day is an annual exercise sponsored by the ARRL(American Radio Relay League), the national association for amateur(ham) radio operators in
the USA. The purpose of the exercise is to test and demonstrate emergency communications in field conditions that could occur during or after an
emergency. A secondary purpose is to introduce the general public to amateur radio operation.
