24 hr Emergency Communications exercise

The 3Rivers ARC participated in the USA/Canada American Radio Relay League(ARRL) Field Day exercise held on June 22-23. During Field Day, clubs or groups set up radios in a field or other location simulating an emergency operation. Radio power is from non-commercial sources. During the exercise, the clubs attempt to contact as many other stations as possible during a 24 hour period.
The 3Rivers club set up 3 radios and simple antenna systems at Fish Creek Meadow Campground south of Grangeville. Power was provided by batteries with a back up generator and solar panels.
This year the club made contact with 45 of the 50 US states and 3 Canadian provinces. A total of 369 contacts(100 using Morse code and 269 using voice) were made with stations as far as Hawaii and Alaska in the west to Maine and Puerto Rico in the east.
