This Northern Pike was caught by Sam Palmer with his Grandfather Gary Palmer in Chacolet Lake just West of St.Maries. Although this occurred in the winter of 1998, the memory of the catch is vivid in our minds. It was immediately clear that Sam had an exceptionally large fish to manage as it bowed his fishing pole to the limit. Time after time I watched his Grandfather calm the young angler and gave sound advice as to landing the lunker. After 15 minutes or so it was apparent that this fish would not be landed in an ordinary fashion because no one had a net! Since Pike have a terrible set of sharp teeth and barbs, a plan was made to bring the prey as close to the bank as he could and Grandpa would grab him by the eyes and pull him in. Quite a crowd had assemnled and to everyones amazement, the plan was executed to perfection and Sam had a wonderful story to tell of him, his Grandpa and the Great Northern Pike fight!!
Greatest Northern to come down the Pike!
