CLARKSTON - For Clarkston's Nick King, the start to his wrestling career was a little unconventional.

"Well how I got started is actually a funny story," said King. "My friend Devon, I'd never heard of wrestling before, and he told me I wouldn't be able to handle practice, that I wouldn't be able to stick with it and it would be too hard for me. I wanted to prove him wrong."

And despite now being one of the top-ranked Wrestler in the state of Washington, it didn't always come that easy.

"My seventh grade year I kind of got beat up by little kids," said King. "They would beat me up at practice, I didn't really know anything, so they'd use their experience to their advantage. In eight grade a got a little better. I wrestled over the summer and just really picked it up."

Following a title at the Clearwater Classic last weekend, King said he has one distinct advantage over his opponents.

"I've been working really hard," said King. "I lifted over the summer and wrestled. I have to say my endurance, I run a lot better and can go a lot longer than the other 215 Ibs, they're always a lot bigger."

And with that in mind, he's goal is to end in high school career the way every kid imagines.

"I definitely want to win state," said King. "It's every seniors goal, but I don't want any less than that."
