KENDRICK - With both an impressive performance on the mound and in the box, last Saturday, Julian Madrid carried the Kendrick Tigers to a district win.

"It was great," said Madrid. "It was my first time winning districts. For me and my brother is was (a good feeling)."

In a special brother bond, Madrid's older brother Mike coaches the Tigers. While new to the idea, the younger Madrid said he enjoys it.

"It's something different," said Madrid. "It's my first time playing for him, but it's a good experience."

As a transfer from Lewiston High, Julian wasn't around last year when Kendrick fell just one win short of a state title. However, he's said his teammates are eager for another chance.

"They're fired up," said Madrid. "They want to win it this year. If we play like I know we can, we should do good."
