Hard work pays off for Lutes
By Sabrina Beale
ASOTIN, Wa- "He's a three sport athlete, but has a hard time picking his favorite season.
"Every time a different season rolls around it's my favorite," said Senior Jared Lutes. "If it's football season, football's my favorite. If it's basketball, it's basketball." For now, it's baseball. Asotin's Jared Lutes has been on a tear, hitting over .600 on the year and holding down the infield from his corner position. "I play third base so I'm pretty close the action all the time," said Lutes. "It's the hot corner. It's fun. I love it." Asotin Head Coach Jim Holman said he's been impressed with Jared's work ethic, and will miss his leadership next season. "He's just a great presence," said Holman. "He kind of lightens the mood a little bit and works hard. Wants to get stuff done, but at the same time kind of keeps it lighter and reminds kids that it's a game overall." This senior has worked hard to become the best athlete he can be, but said he wouldn't be where he is today without the support he's received from some very special people. "My mom and dad have helped me out a lot, then of course my coaches," said Lutes. "I've had excellent coaching. So all of them have been great." After graduation, Lutes plans to attend LCSC to become a firefighter and EMT and may try to give college baseball a shot. But first he's on a mission to bring home another state title, before he ends his impressive prep career. "I love competing for Asotin," said Lutes. "I'm really happy. I don't think there's any other team in our league that I'd rather play for. I'm really happy to be a Panther." |
