Scott stays busy!

Scott stays busy!

By Sabrina Beale

NEZPERCE, Id- She's a two-time state qualifier in the shot put and last year turned in a 5th place state finish. Nezperce's Danielle Scott is a talented athlete, but said she wouldn't be where she is today if it wasn't for someone special.

"I had a teacher who was really influential and believed in me and made me want to try to do my best to throw and become the best I can," said Scott

Scott said track season is her favorite time of the year.

"I like how between throws you get to hang out with your friends from different towns," said Scott. "You meet a lot of neat people."

But sports aren't the only activity that keeps Scott busy. She also raises pigs as an FFA project.

"I have to balance things," said Scott. "I have to spend time with my pigs, working with my show pigs, and also cleaning pins, feeding. So I have to really schedule my time so I can work on everything."

Scott has a big leadership role on this year's track team.

"She's very determined," said Nezperce Assistant Track Coach Janice Baldus. "She's always one of the last ones to leave the practice and always one of the first ones there. She's kind of a quiet leader but she's definitely one that you want to have on the team because she's got a really good attitude and everything."

And that great attitude will surely be displayed as this athlete aims to finish out her high school career on top.

"This year I'd like to be in the top two in shot put and discus," said Scott. "So it's looking pretty good. Thursday I had a meet and I threw 103 in discuss. It's looking pretty good."
