Hobson making his time count

Bengal Senior Wrestler, Mark Hobson

By Sabrina Beale

LEWISTON - Being a Bengal wrestler, Mark Hobson is following the family tradition.

"Actually my older brother was a wrestler and he kind of wanted us to wrestle, me and my brother," said Mark. "We started back in the 3rd grade and have been hooked ever since."

Mark competes alongside his twin brother Nick, and said he couldn't ask for better teammates.

"Our team's awesome," he said. "I couldn't ask for anything else. It's the coolest team I've ever been on."

Hobson's started out the season with a bang, but those who know him say they're not surprised.

"Good student academically, team leader," said Head Coach Dan Maurer. "He does the national team stuff in the summer, everything he can to get better, 4-H. He's a good kid, good athlete, good student, team leader."

This senior leader said he wouldn't be the wrestler he is today if it wasn't for his coach.

"Maurer's helped a ton," said Mark. "He's actually been there the whole time. Couple other guys, but Maurer's pretty much the main guy."

Hobson has only a couple months left competing for the program, but hopes once he leaves the Bengal tradition will live on.

"I really think it's an awesome sport," he said. "I think it's above all probably because I've been doing it this whole time. But, for anybody to join wrestling is probably an awesome choice."

And if things go according to plan, this senior will finish his Lewiston career on top surrounded by some of his best friends.

"I plan to be a state champ," he said. "And not losing pretty much any more. This has been the best season I've ever had, just having all the seniors on the team. It's awesome."
