Moscow Preps for Babe Ruth Districts
By Matt Loveless
MOSCOW , IDAHO - City Babe Ruth championships wrapped up in June, and now Moscow is getting ready for some district action.
Six teams will be on the Palouse all looking for a prime spot in the state tournament the following week. "We've got teams form Latah County, and that encompasses boys from Moscow, Genesee, Potlatch, Troy, and Kendrick," said Susan Steele, District Tournament Co-Director. "Then we have a team from Lewiston, a team from Central Idaho, and a team from Clearwater River." Steele said each is an all-star team from the area, and each will have a shot at the state tourney, but the weekend will show what kind of shot they'll get. "For each one of the levels there will be two teams that go on to state, so the teams that are playing here at the 13 and 14 year old level will automatically go on to state. Steele said, "what we're play for here is seeding, and that's important." Steele said it's worth the cheap ticket to see the best 13 to 15-year-old baseball in the region. "We have five dollar per person per day fee. Six years and younger is free. For an individual tournament pass that will get into all the games is 10 dollars, and a 25 dollar family tournament pass for up to four members. We do allow senior citizens in at half price," said Steele. All the games will be played at Bear Field, next to Moscow Junior High school on D Street. The 13-year-olds start the tournament with play at 1:00 on Friday. Two games will follow. Game 2 for each match-up will be at 10:00, 1:00, and 4:00 on Saturday. |
