Junior Golf tees up for second tourney

CLARKSTON - Young golfers got back on the links today for round two.

It's the second of five tournaments in the Valley's Junior Golf Series.

"We're at Clarkston Golf and Country Club today, said Shawn Nilsson, LHS Golf Coach and Tournament Director. "'s a beautiful day, and or numbers are up. I think we'll end up with close to the 70 mark today with junior golfers playing.")))

At Bryden Canyon Golf Course two weeks ago, Nilsson said it was closer to 55, and attributes that to school still being in session. Now that most everybody is out, their junior golf program reach is growing.

"We've got several golfers from all over the area now. Pullman, Moscow, Pomeroy and Lewiston Clarkston Asotin, Orofino."

The bigger kids got in 18 holes today, while most of the younger kids played nine. They seem to have a good time, and Nilsson said their constantly working out the kinks.

"We've been doing this for a few years now. We get a little bit better every year hopefully," said Nilsson. "We still aren't sure of our numbers each week when we come out. So we fall a little behind on tee time every once in awhile, but it's good to see the numbers up and the kids out playing."

Organizers encountered a scheduling conflict with their next tournament, and are moving it to Bryden Canyon golf course. They'll be at Lewiston Golf and Country Club and Quail Ridge Golf Course in July to wrap up the series.
