Things get competitive when it comes to Pickleball
By Sabrina Beale
LEWISTON- Athletes from all over the area were in Lewiston Tuesday for day two of the Senior Games. KLEW Sports caught up with some dedicated pickleball players, who didn't mind battling the elements.
"Rain doesn't bother us too much unless it really pours and the course gets slippery," said Participant Steve Judy. "We had 70 games yesterday and we'll end up with over 100. And we've got 24 participants this year. We're excited." Although the games are just for fun, that doesn't mean people aren't bringing their 'A' game out on the court. "The competition's been really good," said Judy. "We have some really good players. Some really good ones in the 50-54 age bracket. And its been competitive in every event. We're having a great time." Some athletes have even travelled from other states to compete. That's the case for Charlene Porter, who lives in the Tri-Cities. "We just go to pickleball tournaments," said Porter. "We played in Boise last year so we decided to come up and try this one." The mixed doubles competition was heating up as players on both sides of the net were getting into the game. Porter said playing with the guys has its challenges, but the ladies can hold their own. "They are pretty competitive but they do tend to take it a little easy on us, so they don't slam us all the time," said Porter. "So that's pretty good." |
