Bengal track and field team prepare for state!

By Sabrina Beale

LEWISTON- They're district champs, and aiming for a state title. The Bengal boys track and field team believe this could be the year that they make some noise down in Boise.

"We've got a really strong team going into state," said Bengal Andy Perez. "We've got Ryan Bowen and Cody Hayes, they've got the field events pretty much tied up. Then we've got Ryan Young, a junior who's doing really good in the hurdles and a couple of the jumps too. Peter Gregg is placing in all his jumps. And we've got some pretty strong relays too."

The Bengals are stacked with talent and have the numbers that are needed to score enough points to propel them to the top of the team standings. Lewiston senior Grady Davis will be competing for what he calls the dream team of the shot put and discus and believes anything is possible if his team shows up to compete.

"It's just a matter of bringing it all out when we need it," said Bengal Grady Davis. "So that one day that we go to state, hopefully we can get it all together and do good."

And if this group of Lewiston boys can accomplish their season-long goal, they'll do so while knocking a dominant school off the top spot on the podium.

"We would top Borah which has won both girls and guys team titles the past three years," said Bengal Ryan Bowen. "The guys have won the past four years. So they've basically developed a dynasty in Idaho. They've been on top, it's about time they came down off that. None of the people there this year, apart from the coaches, were there for the original state title they won. So it's about time that Borah came down and Lewiston got back on top."
