Freshmen quarterback Connor Halliday in action.
Despite the rain, snow, and freezing cold, Coug fans were treated to a very welcome surprise as Arizona State was introduced to the concept of karma.
Freshmen quarterback Connor Halliday, on his first play from scrimmage, found a wide open Marquess Wilson for an 85 yard score. By the end of the game he had completed 27 of 36 passes, thrown for 4 touchdowns and a Pac 12 Conference freshman record breaking 494 yards.
Now for the part about karma. Arizona State had recruited Halliday but passed on him for another QB that eventually passed himself at the opportunity to play for the Sun Devils. Halliday said he's only too happy to play where he's wanted and perhaps ASU head coach Dennis Erickson should have realized what he had.
I'm not going to go somewhere where I'm not their first option" said Halliday. "I think that goes to show you that maybe Mr. Erickson made a mistake."
Halliday certainly isn't lacking in the confidence department, and he was named the PAC 12's offensive player of the week. And more importantly, he'll be back under center as Wazzu closes out the home schedule on Saturday against Utah.
