Leach has high praise for new QB recruit

New Coug QB Austin Apodaca.

PULLMAN, WA - This signing day was different than most for new Washington State head coach Mike Leach. He had to balance putting together a new staff as well as finalizing recruits in just a matter of weeks.

Out of the 27 new Cougs, one to keep your eye on is QB Austin Apodaca out of Silver Creek High School in Colorado. Mike Leach, who is no stranger to good quarterbacks, had some very high praise for his new recruit.

"Austin is one of the most accurate guys I've ever had the opportunity to recruit and I've had some accurate guys in the past." said Leach. "Austin is a high school player and maybe the most accurate, certainly one of them."

"It feels great." said Apodaca. "You know I'm just so blessed to have this opportunity, I'm just so excited. I'm kind of at a loss for words, I have been for the whole day. I'm just really fortunate to have this opportunity and I can't wait to get up there and start going to work."

Austin says he expects to redshirt his first year before competing for the starting job.
