Greene drafted by Diamondbacks; Three other Warriors selected

LEWISTON- Former Bengal turned Warrior Kyle Greene was selected Friday in the 11th round of the Major League Baseball Draft. Greene said Friday's been quite an exciting day.

"I just woke up this morning and I had a few phone-calls from people," said Greene. "One thing led to the next and I just sat around waiting until I got a phone-call but it came sure enough."

Greene was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks and is anxious to join the organization.

"It's a great organization to get into and both the teams around are close to Lewiston," said Greene. "Missoula and Yakima are the two locations I believe. So that's probably where I'll be going and it'll be close to home so I'm happy with everything else too."

Greene will leave early next week for a mini-camp which will determine where he begins his minor-league career. It's been a whirlwind week for the Lewiston native, as he's won a World Series, been named the NAIA player of the Year, and been selected in the Major League Draft. He said he's still soaking in the whole experience, and enjoying the moment.

"It hasn't really kicked in yet," said Greene. "But it's a been a lot of fun. A pretty emotional time. I'm pretty happy."

Three of Greene's teammates were also selected Friday in the draft. Pitcher Matt Fitts was taken in Round 16 by the Oakland A's. Blaine Hardy went in Round 22 to the Kansas City Royals, and Brent Wyatt was drafted in Round 26 by the Detroit Tigers.
