Newlee introduced to Vandal nation

MOSCOW, Id- He's had the job for a week, but Monday night was the first chance Vandal fans had to meet new women's basketball coach Jon Newlee as he was introduced at a news conference in Moscow. The former Idaho State Coach said he's excited for the opportunity to coach the Vandals, and is ready to get to work.

"Ever since I took the job last week I"ve got a flood of e-mails, phone calls and everything telling me what a great place Moscow is and the University of Idaho," said Newlee. "And I'm extremely excited and looking forward to the challenge of returning the Vandal program to its winning ways."

Newlee spent the last six seasons coaching for the Bengals, and accumulated a 93-and-82 record. He said he's anxious to grow in his coaching career, and UI is the perfect place to do that.

"I'm very familiar with the WAC," said Newlee. "I spent a lot of years in the WAC as an assistant coach. So I'm looking forward to getting back in the WAC and renewing some old rivalries, that's for sure."

Coach Newlee said he has a plan for the women's basketball program, and will be watching plenty of video in the new few weeks to figure out where his team stands. He says he's excited for the future, and can't wait to get to know the returning players.

"I'm very excited to get to work with the core group of players that are here," said Newlee. "I had a good meeting with them at the time when I came up and interviewed. So I'm looking forward to meeting with you after this and taking about what we've got to get done."
