Moscow, ID - It has been announced that Steve Axman has retired as the offensive coordinator at the University of Idaho, a position he has held since 2007.

In his time with the Vandals, he was considered for the 2009 Frank Broyles Award as the nation's top assistant coach and helped guide former Vandal and current Chicago Bear Nate Enderle to one of the best careers ever by an Idaho quarterback.

"At the age of 64, my wife and I are closing in on our retirement goals." said Axman. "We though this might be as good a time as any to go on with the next stage of my life."

"I appreciate coach Axman's hard work and effort." said head coach Robb Akey. "We have had some great times together and I wish him the best in his future endeavors."

Axman's coaching career has spanned more then 50 years with stops including UCLA, Stanford, and Washington.

In addition to Enderle, he has also coached the likes of Troy Aikman when he was at UCLA, Washington star Marques Tuiasosopo and Maryland's Neil O'Donnell.

He has also written 12 books on offensive football with his 13th due out early next year.
