UI basketball season tipped off this past weekend with a win
MOSCOW, ID - Right across the football practice field, Idaho football fans became basketball fans as they poured into the Memorial Gym for some basketball.

Game one for the Idaho Vandals basketball team went down Saturday night as Western Illinois hoped to cause a home upset in the first game of the season. The Vandals never led by more than five in the first half, but pulled away to a 10-point advantage five minutes into the second.

In the end, Stephen Madison went seven-of-11 from the field for 21 points and 14 rebounds, Glen Dean added 15 points as the other double-figure scorer, and the Vandals would get win number one, beating Western Illinois 67-63.

For his performance, Madison would be named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week. The Vandals will travel to Oklahoma to take on the Sooners this Wednesday.
