Gesser is keeping his head up despite rough week for Vandals
MOSCOW, ID - With former Head Coach Robb Akey out of the picture, it’s been a long week for Interim Head Coach Jason Gesser.

Aside from having to dismiss two of his players and suspending another, Gesser is keeping his head up and working with his coaching staff to prepare the team for Saturday’s game against San Jose State. As the Vandal’s former offensive coordinator, Gesser said that his additional responsibility puts more pressure on everyone, especially on the defensive side of the ball.

“I’m not like Coach Akey," said Gesser. "I’m not able to do all of those things, look at the defense, look at the special teams. I don’t have the time or anything to do those things so more responsibility and more accountability is put on those guys to step up to the plate.”

Gesser said that not having a game last weekend was helpful, but the rest of the season will still be stressful with a slightly smaller staff. Since Gesser’s position is temporary and the Vandals will not be playing in any bowls this season, he says the team has the chance to have some fun in the upcoming games, but within reason. He said that the main focus will still be winning and giving the players the respect that they deserve as the team finishes out a rocky season, and his coaching will reflect that.
