Lewiston, ID - Day two of the Major League Baseball draft saw the Seattle Mariners stay within the borders of the Evergreen State to pick up some future talent.

With their 7th round pick, the Mariners drafted Washington State first baseman Taylor Ard. Ard led the PAC-10 in home runs in 2011 and finished second in the PAC-12 in 2012.

In preview years, Ard has been drafted by the Marlins (2012) and the Red Sox (2011)

Another WSU player was taken on day two. Senior outfielder Derek Jones was selected by the Colorado Rockies during the 8th round of the draft.

Jones was a 13th round pick by the Baltimore Orioles in 2011 and holds the Washington State career record for home runs with 41.

One interesting note from Tuesday's draft, pitcher Michael Heesch from the University of South Carolina Beaufort was picked by the Chicago Cubs in the 8th round.

Scouts from Chicago were in the stands during the 56th Annual Avista NAIA World Series as Heesch threw 128 pitches against Rogers State allowing 13 hits and only 3 runs.
