LAPWAI, ID – The L-C Valley got its first look that the 2012-13 LCSC men’s basketball team as they took part in the second annual Josiah’s Jam.

The event is put on each year by the family of Josiah Sobotta-Marek who died of sudden infant death syndrome in 2001 at just five months old.

The goal of Josiah’s Jam is to raise awareness to help prevents SIDS. The event features raffle prizes, a shooting contest, dance contest, and some basketball.

The Warriors were dived into a “blue team” and a “white team”. There was a score kept, but it had little meaning since players saw time on both teams. For those wondering, the final was the Blue Team beating the White Team 70-67.

During halftime, LCSC head coach Brandon Rinta explained the special connection that Josiah’s Jam has with not only him, but some of his players.

“We’ve got three players on our team who have children,” said Rinta. “For myself having a couple of children, this is a great event to bring awareness to SIDS. Josiah Sobotta passed away from SIDS, it’s actually Trey Sobotta who is a freshman on our team, his cousin. It’s a way of remembering him and just bringing awareness to the community what SIDS is and the steps that can be taken to help prevent it.”
