Blackman named Vandals starting QB
MOSCOW, ID - The talk from the coaches that Dominique Blackman had been working for his entire playing career finally happened Monday morning.

He was handed the keys to the Vandal offense and named the starting quarterback for the 2012-13 season.

Head coach Robb Akey had made it clear that he wanted to see separation between Blackman and Taylor Davis before naming the starter. He also wanted to see who had the best control and understanding of the offense and acted as a leader on the field.

Following the Vandals second fall scrimmage, Akey said it was Blackman that displayed the qualities he was looking for.

"He's been doing a lot of things to help him be able to execute it when he gets on the field," said Akey. "It has paid off for him. He has worked himself into this position at this point in time and my challenge to him is to keep it."

It's been a long road for Blackman to get where he is now. After learning of the coaches’ decision, he said that this is the opportunity of a life time.

"It's just a blessing," said Blackman. "It's something I've been spending my whole life trying to work for, being a starting quarterback, having the opportunity to lead this team. I have to take advantage of it."

The Vandals quarterback race is not over yet. The question now becomes who will fill the backup role.

While most people think that Taylor Davis is the logical choice, senior Logan Bushnell has worked his way into consideration for the number two spot.
