RENTON, Wash. - The Seattle Seahawks have finally stepped into the free agent marketplace, agreeing to terms with tight end Chris Baker.

A team spokesman confirmed a deal had been agreed to on Saturday, although the team did not release terms of the contract.

However, KOMO News partner seattlepi.com reports that Baker agreed to a two-year deal for $4.75 million. He will earn $2.75 million for the 2010 season as a backup to starter John Carlson, seattlepi.com reported.

Baker, 30, spent last season as a backup in New England, but previously was a starter for the New York Jets. Last season with the Patriots, Baker had just 14 catches and two touchdowns.

His best season came in 2007 with the Jets when he caught 41 passes for 409 yards and three scores. He spent his first seven years in the league with the Jets.
