Vandal woman end losing streak
Charlotte Otero prepares to sink one of her 4th quarter free throws that iced the game for Idaho Monday night. By Greg MeyerMOSCOW - Up on the Palouse, if ever there was a team in need of a win, it was the Vandal women's basketball team. They had lost six in a row coming into the contest with UC Santa Barbara. It turns out the game was played in Memorial Gym, in front of a small crowd. After starting the game 0 for 20 in the first half, the Vandals pick it up a bit in the second. But with 17 minutes remaining UCSB is up by 12. But the Vandals come roaring back. Charlotte Otero hits the long shot and closes the gap to six. Then Yinka Olorunnife with the basket and the lead is cut to four. Rachele Kloke is next during this Vandal run. Then the Aussie Bianca Cheever from deep, to give the Vandals the lead. And why not have Cheever break it out and add some more damage. The Vandals hit free throws down the stretch to assure the win 47 - 40. The Vandals return to action and conference play at the Cowan Spectrum on January 9 against Fresno State. |
