Warrior women gear up for Nationals!
By Sabrina Beale
LEWISTON- It's off to nationals for the Warrior tennis teams, as both the women's and men's squads gear up for next week's event in Mobile, Alabama. The Warrior women finished the regular season at 8-9 overall, and breathed a sigh of relief when they heard they were selected for nationals.
"We've been so sure of going for the past couple of year, but now that we had to fight for it I think it means a lot more to us this time," said Junior Mei Fong. This will be the Warrior women's 15th national tournament appearance, and they're hoping their experience will show when they take the court. "We have four girls who have been there for the last two years and for us to really to finally be coming into our own," said Fong. "This is our strongest year yet out of all the juniors. And we're just really excited to be able to show what we can finally do." LCSC begins competition Monday morning against Indiana Wesleyan University. Junior Alyson Peck said the competition down south presents some challenges, but she's confident her team can adjust. "It's way hotter, more humid and sticky, but we always practice a couple days outside to get used to it," said Peck. "And a lot of us like the heat and we like to get some sun so I don't think it will be a factor for any of us. But the style of play is definitely different, and its something that we like to see." |
