Greeny will stay at LC
LEWISTON, Id- (LCSC ATHLETICS) Lewis-Clark State College women’s volleyball coach Jennifer Greeny has withdrawn her name as a candidate for the same job at Washington State University and has reaffirmed her commitment with the Warriors on Tuesday.
Greeny, who led LCSC 26-8 record in her first year as the Warriors coach, was being considered for the vacancy at WSU, which is her alma mater. Greeny (nee Stinson) was a standout volleyball player at WSU during 1995-99 and also played on the basketball team her senior season. She also spent 4½ years as an assistant volleyball coach at WSU under then-Cougar coach Cindy Fredrick. “The Washington State job appealed to me because I was a part of that program for so long, but the timing just isn’t right for us,” said Greeny, whose husband Burdette serves as her assistant coach at LCSC. “We feel it is important for us to have the commitment to the LCSC players and the recruits coming in. We want to continue what we’ve started.” LCSC, which had won only 21 matches during the previous three season before Greeny arrived, was picked to finish sixth in the Frontier Conference’s preseason coaches’ poll last fall, but went 12-2 and won the conference title. LCSC then won the conference and Region I tournament titles and earned a berth to the NAIA national tournament. The Warriors wound up being seeded ninth at the 20-team national tournament. Greeny was honored as the Coach of the Year for both the Frontier Conference and Region I. “The support from athletic director Gary Picone, the athletic department, President Dene Thomas, and the LCSC administration has been great,” Greeny says. "We are having a great time coaching at LCSC.” Greeny has signed three recruits for next season in Colfax High setter Abby Bruya, 6-foot-1 middle hitter Dani Barrett of Port Angeles, Wash., and 6-2 right-side hitter and setter Josi Lyman of LaGrande, Ore. The Warriors open the 2008 season on Aug. 22-23 in the LCSC Tournament at the LCSC Activity Center |
