PORTLAND, Ore. - The public appeal for assistance identifying a man in photographs released by the FBI Tuesday led to his identification and location in the Midwest, the FBI said Thursday.
"As of this time, no arrest warrants have been issued or served. Based upon the progress of this investigation, the FBI has determined that no additional publicity of these images is necessary," the FBI said in a statement. "No further comments will be made as the investigation remains ongoing, however the FBI wishes to express its gratitude to the public for their vigilance and assistance in this case."
PORTLAND, Ore. - The FBI calls him John Doe 27, although he may call himself "Jimmy" in one of the videos.
Investigators don't know who he is - or where he is.
But photos and videos that show him sexually abusing a child are still making the rounds on the Internet, prompting a nationwide call for the public's help locating John Doe 27.
The suspect appears to be a white man, possibly in his 40s or 50s, with dark hair and dark eyes, the FBI said.
Anyone with information on the suspect should submit a tip online or call the FBI’s toll-free tip line at 1-800-CALL-FBI.
In April, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children first located the images and videos of John Doe 27 as he was engaging in sexually explicit activities with a child, the FBI said.
Investigators enhanced a number of photos depicting John Doe 27, and they believe there are several clues which may assist with the identification of the subject, FBI said:
For example, the images depict:
- John Doe 27 and the victim inside a residence with a distinctive plaid chair
- Male pattern baldness on the back of the subject’s head
- A ring on the subject’s right ring finger.
In the audio on the video, the individual may have referred to himself as “Jimmy.”
