LEWISTON, ID - Four people were being treated for injuries Friday night after a four-car collision just outside Lewiston.

The accident happened around six Friday evening on Highway-195 near the Idaho-Washington border. Police said those taken to the hospital did include children, but all injuries appeared to be non-life threatening.

"The lead southbound vehicle was slowing down to make a left turn," said Washington State Trooper Mike Murphy. "The next vehicle was a Time Warner van, the driver saw the vehicle slowing and pulled over to the right shoulder. The third vehicle, behind the van, was a pick-up that was unable to stop. It side-swiped the Time Warner van, struck the lead vehicle in the rear, which pushed it across the center line and off the roadway."

The accident is still under investigation. At this point, Murphy said it doesn't look like alcohol played a factor. He said this is a good example of why keeping space between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you is so important.
