Washington Traffic Safety Commission grant will provide overtime funding.
CLARKSTON, WA - The Clarkston Police Department will soon have extra officers on the roadways in an effort to reduce traffic related deaths and injuries.

The Clarkston City Council approved a $2,600 grant from the Washington Traffic Safety Commission. According to Police Chief Joel Hastings, the money will provide overtime funding to crack down on impaired driving and to enforce seat belts.

"They're not required to take any other calls, any other issues during that time they're working under the grant," said Hastings. "And I think it's effective in reducing some of those traffic problems we do have because of that."

This will be the eighth year the Clarkston Police receives this specific grant. Extra patrols could begin as early as November 27th.
