LEWISTON, ID - Ten Special Olympic athletes are headed to state thanks to a local elementary school's fundraising efforts.

McSorley's student council was set on raising money for the local Special Olympics team, and all that hard work paid off in a big way Friday at a school assembly. A school run-walk fundraiser brought in more than $2,000.

"We have an awesome student council it consist of our fourth, fifth and sixth graders here," said McSorley Elementary Counselor, Sarah Albrich. "And our students their very aware of diversity and that's what we celebrated throughout the month of April."

"I very appreciate this money because if it wasn't for this money we don't know how we would get the donations," said Special Olympic Athlete, Anthony Amoss. "And it helps support the local team."

The money will be spent to send ten special Olympic athletes to the state games. A big congratulations to McSorley students and faculty for your remarkable fundraising efforts.
