Woman sentenced for crash that killed daughter

BURLEY, Idaho (AP) — A southern Idaho woman found guilty of misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter for a crash that killed her 4-year-old daughter has been sentenced to four months of unsupervised probation.

The Times-News reports reports 5th District Magistrate Judge Rick Bollar withheld judgment during Tuesday's sentencing, meaning Raquel Sanchez-Gutierrez of Malta can petition for the conviction to be removed from her record if she successfully completes probation.

Gutierrez was convicted for an August 2011 rollover that killed Ruby Sanchez on Idaho Highway 81 near Malta.

Her attorney, Kent Jensen, said she was a victim of severe domestic abuse, contributing to a series of events leading up to the crash.

Bollar said there is nothing the court can do that compares to the punishment Gutierrez is already going through.
