Wildfire north of Pittsburgh Landing 60% containment

Wildfire north of Pittsburgh Landing 60% containment
PITTSBURGH, ID - The Pittsburg Fire, burning within the Hells Canyon National Recreation area, is now at 60% containment.

The lightning caused fire, which began more than a week ago, has burned 8,000 acres and caused six injuries. However crews are cautiously optimistic at this time as good progress was made over the weekend strengthening fire-lines.

"We had dozer lines and secondary lines to the north containing the fire," said Information Officer Nick Cronquist. "And hand crews with type-one crews trailing down the south. And all those lines held and the fire has really had no growth in the last three days."

Crews are continuing to monitor and build fire lines around the Big Canyon Creek area. The fire is mostly burning in grass.
