Whitman County Community Action in Colfax closes office
COLFAX, WA - The Whitman County Community Action Center recently closed its Colfax branch due to a lack of funding.

The non-profit helps out low to moderate income families in Whitman County that can’t fully support themselves. Family Development Program Manager Amy Robbins said the Colfax office needed to close because one of its case managers recently retired, and they just aren’t getting as much funding from state and federal government as they used to.

“Some of our larger grants are experiencing some reductions, and so just had to see what we could do to make sure the services stay intact, and we’re able to provide them to as many people as possible," said Robbins.

Now, the entire organization is operating out of the Pullman office and all calls to the Colfax office will be forwarded there. This means that some families may need to drive a little further to meet with a case manager, but Robbins said the organization will be able to serve the same amount of people. Community Action Center services include a food bank, rental assistance, and energy assistance.
