MOSCOW, ID - The Washington State Attorney General's office has filed a lawsuit against a northwest auto dealership.

The Attorney General's office saw a spike in complaints from Washington consumers who weren't receiving payments from the Gilbert Auto Dealership in Washington and Idaho, including on in Moscow, forcing them to make payments on both new and traded-in vehicles to prevent repossession. The attorney general is reaching out to any other consumers that may have been affected.

"What we're trying to do right now is just damage assessment, and determine the extent that consumer trade-ins have not been paid off," said Washington State Attorney General Senior Counsel of Consumer Protection Mary Lobdell.

Since October, the Washington Attorney General has received 32 complaints about the four Gilbert dealerships, including a Washington resident who bought a vehicle at the Moscow Gilbert Auto. The Attorney General is currently working with Owner Mark Gilbert to get those vehicles paid off. We tried to contact the company for a comment, however our calls have not been returned.

Washington residents experiencing a similar issue are encouraged to report it on the Washington State Attorney General website.

Idaho residents that are having issues with Gilbert Auto trade-ins should contact the Idaho Transportation Department. The IDT says to contact its investigator Randy Squires with any complaints at (208) 799-4289 or file a complaint on-line at Idaho Transportation Department webite .
