Large donation to WSU Museum of Art expansion project gets boost

Large donation to WSU Museum of Art expansion project gets boost
PULLMAN, WA - Washington State University’s Museum of Art has big plans for expansion, and a large donation from one of the nation’s leading arts patrons has put them much closer to reaching their fund-raising goal.

The university accepted a $5 million gift from Portland Philanthropist Jordan Schnitzer, the president of Harsch Investment Properties and active leader in civic causes.

WSU President Elson Floyd explained that this expansion will affect more than just the museum.

“We will have to relocate the police department, which is right beyond this, and that’s a good thing," said Floyd. "It’s not a good thing to have a police department right in the middle of campus.”

The university has yet to decide where to put a new police department, but they have plenty of time to decide. Despite Schnitzer’s sizable contribution, the museum still has $6 million to raise before it can break ground on this expansion project.
