LEWISTON, ID - Money received from 'Tina's Hope for a Cure' fundraiser will greatly assist in the process of finding a cure.

More than $90,000 was raised at the annual event on Saturday, and all of the proceeds are going to the Cystinosis Research Foundation. Tina Flerchinger, 10, has the very rare deadly disease, which affects less than 500 people in the U.S.

Tina's mother and board of trustee member for the research foundation, Denice Flerchinger, spoke openly about her daughters condition.

"This year has been emotionally hard for Tina," said Tina's mother Denice Flerchinger. "She has a lot of and recognizes she is different from her peers. The other day she approached me with a dreaded statement. Mom I wonder what it is like to not take medicine. My heart sank, I reassured her she would soon know and that we are searching for a cure. The truth is she looks good on the outside but on the inside her body is fully deteriorating, Eventually every organ in her body will fail and I'm not sure how much longer we can shelter her from the realities of this fatal disease."

Even though the fundraiser has come and gone, it's still not too late to help out. If you'd like to learn more about Tina or donate to the cause, we've put a link on our KLEW Facebook page.
