Know when to brake versus steering out of a situation.
LEWISTON, ID - Heavy snowfall for the Valley and surrounding regions since Thursday has made the roads slick and nasty out there.

Since Friday, AAA is reporting the L-C Valley has seen a 62-percent increase in calls for road service, causing headaches for local drivers. Triple-A Spokeswoman Jennifer Cook said even the slightest bit of snow can be hazardous if you're not prepared to drive in different conditions.

"Be cognizant of when it's best to brake versus steering out of a situation," said Cook. "So if the roads are really icy braking is not going to do you a lot of good. You need to make sure that you have enough room between you and the car in front of you."

Cook said if you don't have to drive when conditions are bad on the roads then don't. But if you have to, keep supplies in your car that could help you if you were to become stuck or stranded.
