Slowdowns in Portland create problems at Port of Lewiston

LEWISTON, ID - There is more bad news for the Port of Lewiston as the slowdowns downriver in Portland continue to cause problems locally.

Port of Lewiston Manager David Doeringsfeld tells KLEW News that the slowdown hundreds of miles away has significantly impacted local customers and their scheduling of cargo to be shipped. The National Labor Relations Board has asked a federal judge to hold dockworkers at the Port of Portland in contempt of court because they defied an order to work faster. Yet, dockworkers in Portland were found to be working at a deliberately slow pace. The slowdown began early last month amid a dispute between the unions representing longshoremen and electrical workers. Doeringsfeld said that calling the impact in Lewiston noticeable is a tame descriptor.
