Driver of fatal rollover accident in Clarkston pleads not guilty
ASOTIN, WA - The man authorities hold responsible for the death of a Lewiston girl pleaded not guilty Monday in Asotin County Superior Court.

Gilberto Alex Garcia, 20, pleaded not guilty to one count of vehicular homicide and vehicular assault for a single-vehicle rollover accident that occurred in July near the Clarkston Heights.

The accident claimed the life of 16-year-old Ashley Nelson, who was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the Garcia's vehicle when it rolled.

Defense Attorney Nicholas George requested that Asotin County Superior Court Judge William Acey adjust Garcia's $50,000 bond. That request was later denied.

"God forbid, if he did get out and mixed alcohol and speed together," said Acey. "He could be a high risk of another injury, another fatality, and that's what concerns the court a great deal."

Since Garcia has no prior felony convictions it appears he could face up to 54 months in prison. Garcia will make his next court appearance on August 20th.
