LEWISTON, ID - The Lewiston Police Department Special Weapons and Tactical Team is doing their part to prepare for the unthinkable.

The regions only SWAT team participated in an active shooter training exercise Thursday at Jenifer Junior High. Lewiston Police Department Captain Tom Greene said that it's important for the men to stay up on all the latest tactics and be prepared for all possible scenarios.

"There are so many facets that they have to stay up to speed on and things that change," said Greene. "Things that have to be practiced and re-practiced so that when they are needed it's second nature they don't have to stop and think about it. So it's very critical that we keep our training frequent and up to the current standards."

The prestigious Swat team is made up of officers from LPD, Nez Perce County and the Clarkston Police Department.
