Paige Ireland, 41, Caldwell, was originally charged with aggravated battery and use of a deadly weapon in the commission of a felony, but the Canyon County prosecutor's office is awaiting reports from the medical examiner to make a charging decision, the newspaper reports.
Paige Ireland is held on a $500,000 bond.
The affidavit states Paige Ireland told a Canyon County sheriff's detective that her husband had been verbally and physically abusive over the past two years.
The Press-Tribune says that in the affidavit Paige told the officer that just after 3:45 p.m. on Feb. 10, she decided to pack some belongings and leave the home.
The document continues, saying her husband followed her around the residence, yelling.
While packing a suitcase, she told the detective, she saw her hunting rifle in the closet and - although she acknowledged during the interview that it was a mistake - pointed it at Samuel Ireland to scare him so he would stop yelling and she could leave.
Paige Ireland believed the rifle was not loaded, but when Samuel Ireland yelled at her to shoot him, she pulled the trigger intending to scare him, the document states.
