PULLMAN, WA - One person is dead and another is hospitalized after a major car crash late Sunday night in Pullman.
According to police, 85-year-old Edward Bennett was driving down Southeast Crestview Street when he lost control of his Chrysler van. The van went through a parking lot, collided head-on with a southbound vehicle on Grand Avenue, and then hit a pole.
"We determined he was an 85-year-old Pullman resident who most likely had a major medical event, possibly a heart attack, then lost control of the vehicle, which caused the accident," said Pullman Police Commander Chris Tennant.
Bennett was pronounced dead on the scene, but officials believe that he passed away moments before the car crash. Bennett was a former history professor at Washington State University. The driver of the other vehicle was a 25-year-old Moscow resident. She was send to Pullman Regional Hospital with minor neck injuries.
