MOSCOW, ID - Moscow will start the new year with a new mayor, and Nancy Chaney will have to step away from the position after serving as the community's leader for eight years.

Latah County's final cumulative election report shows that Chaney received about 41% of the votes while William Lambert received nearly 59%. Chaney said that's just the nature of politics, but she admits that she's personally disappointed in the results.

"I've invested a lot of myself over these past eight years and you know, serving as Moscow's mayor has been a huge honor and privilege for me," said Chaney. "I truly was more and more inspired every day."

Chaney said she plans to give Moscow her all until the end of the year, and that she'll continue her community involvement even after her term ends.

The final cumulative report from the auditor shows that 4,629 people voted in this mayoral election, and the voter turnout for the entire county was just over 34%.
