Man accused of 2010 arson extradited back to Washington

A man accused of committing arson in 2010 and then fleeing to California has been arraigned in Asotin County Superior Court.
After two years of evading police, 23-year-old Ryan Burgess was picked up on a warrant last week and then extradited to Washington and arraigned on Monday.

According to Prosecutor Ben Nichols, Burgess allegedly set off a home-made firework which ignited a grass fire in July of 2010. The grass fire got out of control and burned down a large shop and several smaller outbuildings.

Burgess faces a charge of Arson in the First Degree, because two firefighters were injured battling the blaze. If convicted, he could face a maximum of 27 months in prison.
