LEWISTON, ID - Local firefighters raised more than $900.00 for charity.

The Lewiston Fire Department suited up in full gear to climb simulated stairs over the weekend in an effort to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Seven men will be attending this years "Big Climb" in Seattle, to help raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Societies largest fundraiser in Washington.

"It is kind of double duty for us because we get a little exercise, get a little work out, plus people look at us and have all kinds of comments," said Battalion Chief Kevin Kalbfleisch. "Like, wow that must be hard." And it is hard, and it is very hot because you are wearing all of that stuff."

The Lewiston crew plan to be on the simulated stair machine a few more times this month before they head over to Seattle for the "Big Climb" on March 11th. All proceeds go towards curing leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease, and myeloma to improve the quality of life for patients and their families.
