Lewiston teens benefit during National Teen Driver Safety Week
LEWISTON, ID - In honor of National Teen Driver Safety Week, the Lewiston Police Department teamed up with local mechanics to provide free car inspections for Lewiston teens.

Lewiston High School students learned a thing or two from the professionals at the Fifth Annual Safety Week event. Several mechanics donated their time, and provided every student with free vehicle inspections and mechanical advice. With winter right around the corner, it couldn't have come at a better time.

We have the most breakdown in the fall and the spring because of the weather change," said Hot Bodz & Custom Rods mechanic, Arren Connors. "So a very good time to check your car before winter."

"It's just a different way of kids interacting with police officers, we get to talk to them on a different forum," said LHS School Resource Officer, Rob Massey. "And it's just a way to make sure their cars are working properly."

In addition to free services, the students were given free merchandise that local businesses donated. In the U.S., vehicle crashes are the number one cause of death among 15 to 19 year-old's.
