LEWISTON, ID - Recycling is a priority in Lewiston, and viewers asked us to find out where all the recyclables go.
The new system of single-stream recycling couldn't be any easier, because sorting is no longer necessary. After the recycling is picked up curb-side, everyone's recyclables are taken down to Pacific Steel and Recycling, where it's compacted.
"Then Pacific bails it up and loads it on to a truck and sends it to a facility that sorts it all," said Manager of Sunshine Disposal and Recycling Sean Mccabe.
Seattle, Portland and Spokane are locations where the sorting takes place. Right now Lewiston averages about 30 tons of recycling a week, which has gone up dramatically since the new system has been put into place.
