LEWISTON, ID - Lewiston's Public Works has jumped on the social media bandwagon. They now have a new Facebook Page.

The City of Lewiston's Public Works wants us to "like" them, on Facebook that is.

In the interest of getting current information out to the community, the organization is embracing social media.

Jill Tolman, Public Works Secretary of the City of Lewiston, oversees the page and keeps it updated constantly.

"Social media, we decided would be fun for us because it kind of gives Public Works an opportunity to show who we are, what we do and make people out of us," said Tolman. "It's a lot more informal of a setting then perhaps press releases or how the media has viewed us, and it's exciting to talk individually with people in the community."

When you sign on to Facebook, search "Lewiston Public Works" and look for the Accreditation logo. Once on the page, you'll get updated information on any ongoing construction projects or road closures in the city.

As Facebook and Twitter continue to dominate the social media world, more public entities are signing on. The Lewis Clark Chamber of Commerce has one, Beautiful Downtown Lewiston has one, and the Lewiston City Parks and Recreation also has a Facebook page.

"Under our general information page, we've got all the blah, blah boring business stuff but it's a lot of fun interactive type thing," said Tim Barker, Parks and Recreation Director of the City of Lewiston. "We'll post questions out there, updates on things that are going on."

Now with a click of a mouse, you can find out about certain road closures, and avoid them before leaving the house.

Public Works set a goal of getting up to 2,000 people to like their page this year.
