L-C Valley residents mark MLK Jr. Day by community service and volunteering
LEWISTON, ID - Remembering Martin Luther King Jr. through community service and volunteering. That's what hundreds of people were taking part in Monday with Lewis-Clark State College.

Students and volunteers from the community took on fifteen different projects Monday around the region. Some people went to local community banks to help sort and distribute food, while others spent quality time with animals at the Lewis-Clark Animal Shelter.

"We started by helping a lady with a sewing machine that didn't work," said volunteer Anne Dwelle. "And then we went to the Boys and Girls Club and raked some leaves for a little while. And I knew she would want to come out here because she loves animals."

Lewis-Clark Service Corps Director Charlette Kremer said fifty volunteers lent a hand in Clarkston, Lewiston and Lapwai. Although those numbers are down from last year, Kremer said Americorps and student participation was strong this year.
