LEWISTON, ID - Ice skaters in the valley are celebrating.

Leaders from the Port of Lewiston decided to give the Amateur Hockey League Association two-to-three more years to find a new place for their rink.

Port leaders were going to end the previous ten-year lease because they said there's not much money coming in to support it.

Brett Wilponen is the president of the association. He said they've worked hard to build their program and he's thankful for more time to figure things out.

"Seeing the kids faces when they're out there on the ice, having a good time, and when they score a goal, it's the best thing," said Wilponen. "They're out there enjoying themselves and having a blast."

Port leaders gave them a two-year lease with a possible third year extension.

Wilponen said they're in the process of looking at buildings around town they could possibly move into, or if they should build a brand new one.
